Review of Cindy A. Christiansen’s Fortune For Fools

Fortune for Fools Banner

Synopsis:
Risk-taker Zeke Abberley knows how to be bold when it comes to his antique shop on Merchant Street in Salt Lake City, Utah. He successfully bid on a collection of 1800s antiques in Nauvoo, Illinois that may contain a valuable Hayez painting. However, love is another matter. Afraid that all women are users, he’s always injuring his dates, particularly Lavinia Vega, who works at her father’s art gallery.

Studious Lavinia Vega is tired of proving to Zeke that she has no ulterior motives. When Zeke brings her a damaged painting to restore and authenticate, she is eager to help but not get involved. When she uncovers a hidden map behind the painting that leads to valuable buried coins, the game plan changes. Or so Zeke thinks.

Review:
If you like down to earth, honest characters, with a bit of paranoia then this book is for you!  Not only do both Zeke and Lavinia have secrets, but they both have secrets that they believe would make the town look at their families in a whole new light.  While Zeke is drawn to the family business as the owner and proprietor of an antique shop, Lavinia is  stuck working under her overbearing father in an art gallery.  Will the two come to trust each other enough to learn what is really important in life, or will they be unwilling to compromise and help each other?

This book features some of my favourite things!  Mystery, suspense, secrets, and a very lovable (but still in need of training) dog!  The characters are well developed and the story is both plausible and endearing.  As Zeke and Lavinia fight to try to find what will make them happy in life, you feel as if you are right there for the ride.  Not only are the two main characters relatable and entertaining, but the supporting cast also plays prominent roles to the overall story.  This book features great foreshadowing, so pay attention to the first half!

This review writer would like to add that Cindy is an amazing person, very kind and down to earth.  She’s generous and caring, and you can see many of her qualities in her characters.  Of course, since Cindy loves dogs- expect to see one in every book!
